Thursday 20 February 2020 - Zwelisha

During our time in Zwelisha we did a range of activities with the children at the care point. The children enjoyed finger paints and playing with bubbles as well as making bead bracelets. Whilst we were at the care point we cleared some rubble from the playing area so the children could have a bigger space to play. It was hard work in the heat, but nobody complained because we knew that if we didn’t do it then the careworkers would have to do it, and they have more than enough to do without shifting rubble. Later the children sung songs and said a prayer before we all ate together.

On our home visit, we met 3 young children at their home waiting for their Gogo to come back from collecting water. Their names were: Grace*, Happy* and Tuesday*. They were all very happy children, but sadly two of them were sick. One of the children was really sick and had to spend 5 to 6 months in hospital last year, but they recently got let out which is a relief.

The Gogo had to look after 10 grandchildren; three of them were her son’s children : Grace, Happy and Tuesday and then the other 5 children were her daughter’s children: Lucy*, Roland*, Tambino*, Clifford* and Belief*. The fathers aren’t there to support the children.

One of the boys was upset so he didn’t want to go to the care point so the Gogo was angry at the reason as to why he was upset, Betwel spoke to the Gogo and helped to clear any confusion which meant the boy could go to the care point, so he came back with us to the care point and joined in with different activities.
